Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup softened butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup cooked ham or bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Mix in melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Transfer dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread softened butter over it, then layer with chopped ham or bacon and shredded cheese evenly.
  4. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log shape. Slice into equal portions and place cut-side up in a greased baking dish.
  5. Cover again to let rise for another 30 minutes before baking for about 25 minutes or until golden brown on top. Drizzle with melted butter before serving.
