  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp red gel food coloring
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, and vegetable oil until smooth. Gradually stir into dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full and bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. While cooling, mix red gel food coloring into frosting for the 'blood' filling.
  6. Once cooled, remove a small section from each cupcake's center, fill with red frosting, replace tops, and frost the outside.
